Action Adventure

Action Adventure  (between 7 and 10 pages.)


Immediate and compelling threat t a vulnerable community

The action-dventure begins on a day when a threat directly challenges the society to which the main character belongs.  Good Guys are under a state of siege

-War of the worlds

-Die hard


Community

A few people-family

an entire nation

-DIe hard

-Independence day

-War of the Worlds

establishing the Problem

avoid excessive exposition


A powerful and resourceful antagonist has a goal that puts the society at risk

Worthy antagonist

Motivated Antagonist


Strong protagonist must carry the fight to the enemy

The antagonist will succeed if immediate physical action is not taken by our hero

Antagonist's plan is interrupted by hero

hero is often a rogue who society does not altogether trust.  Antagonist is likewise an outcast

Exceptional battle between the two larger-than-life compatants story on grand scale.


Hero is missing a personal quality

A-A is a Morality Play

Good vs. Evil.  No compromise s possible.

A moral battle rages inside of a character


The Goal

Must be nearly impossible

Must be a worthy goal, not selfish


Devise a Strategy

Resources, equipment, and perhaps, a professional team need to be assembled.

Period of preparation is vital.  It builds tension during the state of siege.


Conflict

In the bloody confrontation 

Antagonist must be meaner, more powerful, and have more resources than the main character



Protagonist Appears to fail

Because the antagonist is more powerful and better prepared, it appears the antagonist will win the fight.

Protagonist faces sure death

Protagonist must face his "missing personal quality (fear/doubt/faithfullness)


Resurrection and showdown

Hero escapes from his plight

Returns with greater knowledge and resolve

Ultimate showdown.  In the fight only one can win


Satisfying ending

In most action-Adventure stories, the main character defeats the antagonist, and secures a place in society because of his heroic deed.

The Hero is often returned to "his family" he belongs again

Some times the Hero Dies, but the death becomes even more meaningful because they become symbols of heroism.
